The research relied on primitive materials found in nature, such as plants, animals and minerals. In the Middle Ages, Arabs carried the torchlight of medication; they took the drug information from their ancestors especially the Greeks. The drug research that mentioned in their medical manuscripts is considered an enormous fortune. The majority of these literature was translated into the Latin language and then into multiple languages. Therefore the history of medicine gave considerable attention to Arab Physicians who had a direct impact in the progress of the medical sciences especially Pharmacology such as Saber Bin Sahl; the first author of Pharmacopoeia «Qrabadn» and Ibn Sina, with his famous manuscript «qanoon Al-tib» and Dawood Al-Antaqi; the author of "Al-tathkerah".

With the development of chemistry sciences at the beginning of the twentieth century, scientists began in preparation of synthetic drugs used in three areas which are prevention, treatment and diagnosis.
Pharmacology is the science which seeks to explain how drugs work. This can be at the molecular, cellular, tissue or whole body level. It deals with properties and effects of drugs and, in a more general sense, with the interactions between chemical compounds and living systems. Pharmacology is not synonymous with pharmacy, where the pharmacy is the name used to describe the profession. At present most countries issue a guide called drug codex that includes a description of the physical, chemical and pharmacological properties of each drug, indicating the technical ways of preparing the drug, its therapeutic dose, contraindication, and side effects.
