The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry was established since the beginning of the College of Pharmacy at Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University, where it is considered one of the main departments in it. Since the inception of the department, the faculty members of the department have been keen to develop its courses by using modern teaching methods and updating its mechanisms to be consistent with the requirements for graduating pharmacists with high degree of competence from the College, and also to meet the needs of the labor market to contribute to the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
The department is responsible for teaching a number of courses throughout the academic year to cover the curricula of medicinal chemistry, organic chemistry, and analytical chemistry.
The main goal of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the College of Pharmacy at Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University is to prepare qualified pharmacists to provide pharmaceutical and health services to citizens in all public and private sectors. The department also includes four courses:
Pharmaceutical chemistry, which includes several tracks, including the study of the physicochemical properties of drug molecules and the effects of those properties on absorption ,distribution, metabolism and elimination of the drug molecules. And interaction of the drug molecule with the receptor to give the required pharmacological action and expected sıde effects as well as exploration of drugs, drug design using molecular modelıng programs, and study the effects of drugs on dıfferent body systems wıth studyıng how to develop and synthesıze new derıvatıves more effectıve .
- Analytical Pharmaceutical Chemistry, which includes several tracks, including the track of developing analytical methods for drugs, the track of analyzing pharmaceutical preparations, and the track of studying drug metabolism.
- Organic chemistry, which includes the study of the composition, properties, and identifications of organic molecules, the study of stereochemistry and mechanisms of different chemical reactions , in addition to the studying different mechanisms of heterocyclic organic compounds, and their use as nucleus for drug synthesis .
