Under the auspices of the Dean of the College Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Kherfy, the college lecture have orgainzed a lecture on the biotechnology techniques for water treatment. The lecture presented by Dr. Gamal Jabr on Tuesday 10/12/2014.
The threat of heavy metals pollution to public health and wildlife has led to an increased interest in developing systems that can remove or neutralize its toxic effects in industrial effluents and municipal wastewater. Unlike organic contaminants, which can be degraded to harmless chemical species, heavy metals cannot be destroyed. At last period, the researches became focus on the use of microorganisms that has tolerant genes in the removing of these heavy metals from wastewater via using biotechnology modern techniques as isolation, identification, cloning and transformation of genes.
