1.The Department of Pharmaceutics aims to produce competent pharmacy graduates capable of working in various pharmaceutical sectors of pharmaceutical industries, healthcare sectors, and education sectors by providing high-quality pharmaceutical education, outstanding scientific research skills, and effective community partnership in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Pharmaceutics is the core branch of pharmacy which deals with design and development of safe, stable and effective dosage forms and drug delivery systems of potential active pharmaceutical ingredients in order to derive maximum benefits from them with no or minimum harm to the patients.
The department of pharmaceutics imparts fundamental knowledge and advance skills to the pharmacy undergraduates and graduate students under bachelor program (B. Pharm. Sci.) and Master program (Master in Industrial Pharmacy) enabling them to know how to design, develop, optimize, compound, or manufacture various dosage forms and drug delivery systems. In addition, they are trained on how to do the stability testing of active pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients and compounded or manufactured dosage forms. Furthermore, they are also trained on how to do the quality control testing and quality assurance of various dosage forms both newly compounded as well as marketed formulations.
2. The department of pharmaceutics teaches various aspects of the dosage form design, development, and evaluation which are covered under fifteen courses such as pharmaceutical calculation, physical pharmacy, liquid dosage forms, semi-solid dosage forms, solid dosage forms, sterile dosage forms, cosmetics, biopharmaceutics, basic pharmacokinetics, industrial pharmacy, good manufacturing practices and quality control etc. delivered at various levels to the undergraduate students comprising of a total of fifty-three credit hours during the bachelor of pharmacy program.
Master in Industrial Pharmacy, a non-thesis master program aims to prepare pharmacy graduate competent to work in several sectors of pharmaceutical industries such as Research / Formulation and Development, Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Quality control, Quality assurance, Regulatory affairs etc. The department of pharmaceutics imparts advanced pharmaceutical knowledge and skills pertaining to research, development, manufacturing, scale up, quality control, registration and approval of dosage form and drug delivery systems to the potential pharmacy graduate students through seventeen well-developed pharmaceutical Industry and advanced pharmaceutical technology-oriented courses with a total of 63 credit hours.
