The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at College of Pharmacy in Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University is actively involved in medical research and education. It actively teaches its courses at the colleges of Pharmacy, Dentistry, Medical Sciences, and Nursing.
There are two major disciplines within the department. Firstly, pharmacology explores how drugs affect biological systems in order to treat diseases and improve health. Secondly, toxicology aims to understand how drugs, chemicals, and physical agents cause unwanted effects. These disciplines cover molecular mechanisms, drug action on cells, organs, and organisms, and genetic variations that influence drug action. The curriculum is based on leadership, research methods, and translational medicine.
Faculty members, researchers, and students in the department work together to participate in medical field developments. Among their research interests are dermatology, metabolism, immunology, cell biology, cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurodegeneration, behavioral and drug abuse pharmacology, and organ toxicity.
